Marion Broome, Ph.D., RN,FAAN served as the fifth Dean of the School of Nursing from 2004 to 2014. As Dean, Broome was instrumental in the expansion of the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing program to Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus. The program debuted in the fall of 2009.
Broome also served as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs for Clarian Health Partners. During her years at IUPUI, she was an affiliate faculty of the Indiana University Center for Bioethics.
Broome is considered one of the top nursing leaders in the United States. She researches pediatric pain management and the ethics of conducting medical studies on children. Broome is widely published and has won numerous awards, including the National League of Nursing Award for Outstanding Leadership in Nursing Education. Broome is the current editor in chief of the journal Nursing Outlook. She is a charter member of the Nursing Study Section on Children and Families of the National Institutes of Health. She is also past president and founder of the Society for Pediatric Nurses. Broome was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 1994.
Broome left IUPUI in May 2014, when she was named Dean and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of Duke University School of Nursing.
